Styrofoam, officially known as 'expanded polystyrene', or EPS, is often used in cup-form as an insulator, or as peanuts in a package. Yet how much do we truly know about it?
-In an average year, Americans use over 18 million miles of styrofoam.
-Despite the recycle symbol on styrofoam, the Department of Sanitation states it cannot be recycled!
Styrofoam isn't only dangerous for Flora and Fauna, it's also dangerous for humans:
-Styrene, an element of EPS, is a harmful substance that is considered a carcinogen according to research done by the National Research Council. Upon searching for styrene in humans, the EPA discovered styrene in the bodies of every single test study.
